I got connected with our model Mckenna through my friend Sayaka Suzuki (who also happens to be my go-to whenever I need a makeup artist!). We wanted to set up a fun test shoot just to flex our creative muscles a bit and not have the pressure of working under a strict concept or time crunch. We shot the first photos at Mckenna’s place using the awesome light falling through the windows. After that, we found a sweet hiking trail down the street that transported us to another world, and afterwards wrapped up our shoot in Anaheim with a little bit of a gritty street/urban look. Sayaka did such an awesome job on the makeup and I couldn’t have imagined this shoot going as well as it did without her. This particular shoot was the first one I got the opportunity to work with a makeup artist on set for a test shoot. It really opened my eyes to the value of having someone like Sayaka on set to change the look at a moment’s notice. It was definitely a great learning experience for me as a photographer.
