Juggling a small business means you wear all types of hats, in my case, you jump from pushing yourself creatively, to inputting numbers and keeping your books up to date, to managing personalities on your staff, to responding and delivering to your clients. That’s just the tip of the iceberg though and the slightest misstep could mean doomsday for your dreams. On the other hand, handling it, grinding, and never complaining – that could be the key to your success. Unfortunately that key also means burning out and I’ve seen too many a friend go down that path. The best way to get around that is to shoot for fun. For some people they find a passion in things they love, for me that was food – but even then shooting for someone else can eventually become “work” and shooting other people’s food could become regrettable.
This week I took a trip to Seattle with my best friend Chester and unwound. I picked up my camera, meticulously clicked through its settings, and just shot. I took photos of anything I wanted. I shot for noone else, just to capture unique moments, clean compositions, beautiful light. I moved to where ever God led my eye and let go. I found myself running into streets head onto traffic. I dashed up steep hills to find what was on the other side. For the first time in a long time, I shot for myself, I heard music in my head – and I remembered why I loved it. I loved losing myself in the moment.
